Our son (1-year-old) has been doing PT with Developmental Steps for a handful of sessions and the progress he’s made (with Hayley and Tara) in this short period of time has been remarkable! One of the parents left the following review, which I’ve copied and pasted below, because it perfectly represents my thoughts/feelings… “The Developmental Steps team is extremely knowledgeable and each session is truly tailored to our son’s needs. The facility is bright, clean and cheery. They go above and beyond to communicate with parents, give us ‘homework’ to carry over at home and are always available to answer questions. I highly recommend this wonderful team!!

After my daughter broke her leg and our doctor prescribed PT, I immediately called Developmental Steps. My son had worked with Hayley a few years ago and had a great experience so they were my first call. My daughter worked twice a week with Hayley and Tara and truly loved going. She looked forward to her appointments because they both made the work fun for her. Within weeks, my daughter had regained strength in her leg and was able to return to her regular activities. She was honestly sad to no longer need PT. My husband and I are thankful for the great care she received and would wholeheartedly recommend Developmental Steps to others.
Rebecca, Mom of an Infant Girl I’ve known Hayley for over a year and have always thought so highly of her. Shortly after I had my son in December, we realized he needed physical therapy for Torticollis. The only person I wanted to go to was Hayley. Her, and the entire developmental steps team, have been nothing but amazing. Although times are different now, virtual sessions are just as great and we’ve seen tremendous progress with our son. I would highly recommend developmental steps!
Katelyn, Mom of an Infant Girl We started working with Hayley when our little girl was just two months old. She hated tummy time, had torticollis and slight plagiocephaly. The progress and results have been nothing short of amazing. Hayley was always encouraging and helpful in making sure that our daughter was working to the best of her abilities. She always made us feel involved and gave us the tools we needed to ensure our daughters success, even right from our own home. She’s now a big 4 month old who LOVES tummy time and can now rollover on her own!! Her plagiocephaly is pretty much non existent and her neck muscles are stronger than ever! Thank you Hayley and Developmental Steps!

When our daughter was diagnosed with torticollis Developmental Steps was recommended to us. Our first interaction with Hayley was extremely informative. Hayley is VERY knowledgeable and excellent at what she does. We noticed an increase in our daughter’s range of motion after the first week and she has made huge improvements in a short amount of time thanks to Hayley. Everyone we have interacted with in the office has been wonderful. Highly recommend Hayley to anyone that may need PT.

My son is 3 years old and broke his femur and was in a spica cast for 7 weeks. His cast was taken off on a Friday and he had his first session on Monday. I’m truly forever grateful to the staff and Joe at developmental steps for helping my son learn to walk again. We are 6 weeks post cast and he is walking, running, and finally jumping he is back to himself and it would not be possible without Developmental Steps. To watch these therapists help children through fun games and play, yet they are still completing their goals to get the child wear they need to be is truly incredible to watch and be apart of. I strongly recommend Developmental Steps if your child is in need.See Nicole’s video testimonial below:

“When our pediatrician expressed concern that our 4 month old son Thomas had weakness in his left arm and that it wasn’t moving the same way as his right we decided to act immediately and engaged with Hayley at Developmental Steps for physical therapy sessions. After an initial consultation and examination Hayley determined Thomas’s left arm was behind where is should be for his age. Together we discussed a plan and mutual goals – Hayley rapidly constructed a program for our son.
After 5 months of sessions we were amazed at how improved his arms movement range and strength were. In fact, it was our pediatrician who commented, “Had I not known, I never would have noticed anything; he looks great! By the end of sessions, Thomas was crawling at full pace on an inclined ramp and throwing a ball with his left hand better than his right!
The time spent with Hayley at Developmental Steps was absolutely critical to Thomas’s improvement. Hayley kept the program fun for our son while demonstrating compassion for worried parents – Hayley has amazing interaction skills with children and is excellent at communicating feedback to parents. We strongly recommend anyone with similar concerns to work with Hayley; your kids will thank you.”
As a pediatrician I recommend Developmental Steps frequently. I have always had wonderful feedback about all of their providers! In addition they are highly professional and dedicated to providing excellent care. I could not recommend them more highly.
Kristen, Mother of 7 week old boy
My 7 week old son and I took advantage of the free tummy time workshop that Developmental Steps offered. Prior to the workshop we would probably work on tummy time once every other day and my son would immediately get upset every time I set him up. After attending the workshop, I learned different tools to help my baby feel more comfortable on his tummy and even start to enjoy it. Only a few days later, I notice an improvement. He will now hang out on his tummy for up to 7 minutes without getting upset which is a huge improvement! Hayley was very attentive and positive throughout the workshop. She explained the importance of tummy time and how it affects the rest of the developmental steps, especially in the first couple of years of our baby’s life. We are so happy we took advantage of the workshop and would absolutely go to Developmental Steps if we have any future issues with any progress. Highly recommend them!

Joe and Developmental Steps are amazing! My 13 year old daughter has a TBI and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. We are so grateful to have found Joe. He has worked miracles with my daughter. He has so much experience with children and in trying many other PT’s we realize how important it is to have someone who knows how to deal with kids. Joe makes PT fun! He is always positive and can always get my daughter to smile. He pushes her and praises her accomplishments and has seen her through many ups and downs. After battling chronic pain for 2 years,Joe has giving my daughter the hope to continue on! Joe is the best!!! And Barbra is the greatest and sweetest receptionist ever! Don’t waste time going anywhere else!

My son has Congenital Muscular Torticollis and mild hypotonia. We moved from Canada to NY when he was 8 months old and began working with both Hayley and Joe. We learned right away that we had not been doing enough to combat the torticollis or help DS gain the strength to catch up on his motor skills, BUT that it’s never too late to start. Within 6 sessions, DS was rolling. We’ve been working with Hayley and Joe for just over 3 months and now DS has the core strength and balance needed to crawl, transition into/out of sitting, and gain some much needed independence around mealtimes. All our visits have been centered around play and fun. My questions and concerns have always been answered thoroughly and honestly. Also, shout out to Barbara for being the absolute best over the phone.
Mariela, Mother of 2 year old girl
When I first contacted Hayley from Developmental steps it was to evaluate my 4 month old baby. Baby started weekly sessions and has improved significantly since then. Hayley always teaches me how to do the exercises with my baby at home, recommends equipment I could get to help baby, and is extremely sweet and knowledgeable. At developmental steps they also evaluated my kid for OT and helped me navigate the EI process.

Joe is absolutely THE best therapist one could ever have!!!! Joe has been our saving therapy-angel for almost two years, and we certainly could not have gotten through, or even faced the recovery process without Joe’s unique skills, wisdom and sincere care. He’s been our “Yoda” through all this. Joe understands kids and how they think and how to inspire them to get better, and in your overwhelming task of finding the right doctor/therapist, I urge you to meet Joe (and the whole team at Devevelopmental Steps), and see firsthand what a true therapist is.
Julianne, Mother of 4 month old boy
My 4 month old was diagnosed with Torticollis. After 1 week of therapy & at home stretches and exercises his strength greatly improved! Our therapist, Hailey, taught me how to incorporate play in order to help my son stretch his neck muscles. I’m so impressed with this facility & therapist! I couldn’t believe how quickly he improved in just a week! I know with more work & therapy he will have full range of motion, and I’m also learning some new and inventive ways to play with my baby! So glad I decided to start therapy sooner than later!
Lynn, mother of 8 year old girl
A huge shout out to developmental Steps, physical therapy for my 8 year old! She has flat feet and before we started, she would constantly complain about back pain and tired legs. It was stopping her from playing. I went to her pediatrician said not to worry AND I went to a podiatrist who just said to use orthotics, which she said hurt even worse. I KNEW something more needed to be done, but no one would listen to me. Finally, a friend suggested a PT evaluation. At the eval, they validated my feelings and laid out a plan. It was the first time I felt hear to. We got great orthotics that make her feet feel happy AND worked on exercises to strengthen her legs and core to actually correct the problem, not just treat the symptom. Now, she can fully be a kid. I’m so thankful!!

As a parent it is difficult to acknowledge that your child needs a service beyond what you can provide, but once you know you need additional support, you want to make sure you find the best option for your child. About a year and a half ago we began a discussion with Hayley at Developmental Steps about our daughter’s physical therapy needs and since then we have only been completely satisfied with the experiences our daughter has had. Hayley is an amazing physical therapist who seems to have an endless supply of patience and a magic ability to motivate a child regardless of their mood. She is empathetic to the needs of the parent and is more than happy to teach a parent specific activities and exercises that can be done at home to help continue improving the child’s strength. From the moment you enter Developmental Steps you are warmly greeted by either Barbara or Rebecca, which helps to make idle waiting time so much more enjoyable, especially when you have a younger sibling in tow, as I often do. As a result of a family scheduling change, we recently switched to Diana for our daughter’s pt sessions and we continue to be very happy with the care she is receiving. We highly recommend Developmental Steps – the team that works there is an exceptional one!
Patrick, Father of 3 month old girl
Our daughter was diagnosed with mild torticollis at three months old, and we were referred to Developmental Steps by our pediatrician. We love this facility, and our daughter’s therapist, Hayley, is amazing! In the last two months, she has made great progress, and Hayley has taught us exercises and tummy time practices to use at home each day to help our baby girl reach her goals. She has helped us to find toys that we can use in our home to guide her along the way as well. Hayley is kind, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. She is wonderful with our daughter! Our three year old (who sits on the side and watches our sessions) even loves to go to see Hayley! We are so lucky to have found Hayley and this amazing place for our baby girl!

I brought my daughter into Developmental Steps to get PT for a knee injury. She saw both Joe & Hayley for treatment. They were fantastic! My daughter is very active and her injury was affecting her games. After a few visits and home exercises, there was a dramatic improvement in her pain level, endurance and strength. Her orthopedist was beyond thrilled with her check-up. Hayley and Joe were motivating, supportive and made each treatment fun. She’s playing better and her confidence is soaring. Thank you!
Alexa, Mom of 11 month old girl
Hayley from developmental steps is someone that I will never forget. I was a petrified mom of a daughter who was showing developmental delays and it seemed like I couldn’t find anyone to help me. She stepped up in my time of need, welcoming my daughter with open arms, and advocating for her when I didn’t know how. She didn’t hesitate to work with me financially, completely open to different appointment durations, frequencies, and payment schedules so that my daughter could continue to see her. During the sessions she worked with my daughter to make her feel comfortable and had this magical ability to work the physical therapy to suit my daughter, not work my daughter to suit the physical therapy. Willa was calm with her and I trusted her with my baby instantly. She taught me every movement and made me feel confident that I could help my daughter. She boosted my self confidence as a mother in a time where I was doubting my capabilities. Within the 6 weeks of treatment, we saw HUGE improvements. We celebrated together when Willa would reach a new milestone. When I was finally able to find a location that would take our insurance, Hayley was excited for us and so happy that she was in good hands. In a time where everything seems to be about money, it was so refreshing to be surrounded by professionals that truly cared. I will never ever forget the kindness that was extended to my family. Thank you so much.
Mother of 7 year old girl
My daughter used to complain that her legs were tired and hurt after a few minutes of walking. It held our family back from enjoying weekends. After a few sessions, home exercises and proper orthopedics, we can spend all day playing as a family. Several doctors had misdiagnosed my daughter but Developmental Steps was finally able to give my daughter the ability to participate in life and now she can ride a bike, play soccer, and go on long hikes. Thank you so much

“My son was diagnosed with torticolli
The entire Developmen
We have been incredibly happy with the treatment our children are receiving.
The office is a fun and challenging therapeutic environment. Joe and Hayley have worked with our twelve year old daughter for almost three years. Their treatment plan has improved her muscle tone and posture, thereby decreasing her daily discomfort. The home exercise program they have designed for her takes into account her physical needs as well as her busy lifestyle. Hayley and Joe are kind, empathetic, flexible and thoughtful.
Our son’s coordination and physical strength has improved dramatically since he began working with Sue several months ago. He loves the fun games and challenges she creates for him in the office. Even as a 9 year old, he sees evidence of how the program has helped him on the ball field and in gym class. As a team, we feel that Developmental Steps always has our children’s physical and emotional well-being in mind – continually evaluating their progress and creating new ways to move them along their individual paths.
Mother of 8 year old son with Cerebral Palsy
“Developmental Steps is a magical place. It is a place where your child and family can find amazing advice and guidance for getting through life challenges and it is a place for your child to grow and achieve their full potential.
Our 8 year old son has Cerebral Palsy and our family has been working with Joe Kiefer and Hayley Binder for 4 years. Joe is above and beyond a traditional PT. He is a friend, an advisor and truly a mentor for us as we have moved through raising a child with a physical disability. He is an integral part of the team that works with our son and has guided us through two intensive surgeries. He and Hayley worked tirelessly with us to implement a very strenuous post surgery PT plan and it worked! The reality is that they get how hard it can be to make tough decisions on what is best for your kids…and they give great advice and support.
Hayley and Joe are very practical and flexible and always design realistic, custom programs for our son. They work with each family to set long terms goals for their child and then break them down for areas of focus. For example, they both have come to do “home sessions” where we focus on Daily Living Skill activities. They are not afraid to take one step back to take two steps forward. They understand that kids have ups and downs, have periods of progress and other times when they may stall. Joe and Hayley see our son on different days, but they constantly talk with each other and work on complementary skills so he doesn’t “burn out” and continues to grow physically.
The best part about Developmental Steps is that they understand the need to establish a trusting, caring relationship with the children and families they work with. During our time working with Developmental Steps, there have been hard days and easy days which is to be expected. Joe always has a smile on his face and patience throughout. He understands how to motivate kids to achieve their full potential and to provide a listening ear to parents who look out into an uncertain future. Hayley is a bright light each time she works with our son and, while she works him hard, he is always so proud of himself at the end.
When he was very little, most people said our son would not walk or would be an “at home” only ambulator. Well, I am happy to say that Developmental Steps has helped our son learn to walk..literally! He uses a walker at home and at school and has begun working with crutches as well. He uses a wheelchair for longer distances, but is incredibly independent at making the choice about how he wants to get around in the world. As a parent, one of the things I hope for is that our son will be able to live independently some day. Developmental Steps has already enabled us to make that hope a reality.”
