Insurance and Costs in Westchester County
Cost is the reason a lot of families wait, and nobody wants to make a phone call only to find out halfway through that they cannot afford the answer. So here it is up front. Developmental Steps is an out of network provider who works with many carriers to help families get their child's care covered and to keep out of pocket expenses as low as your plan allows, at both the Port Chester and Mt Kisco clinics. What you actually pay depends on your plan, so the honest first step is a phone call where we look at yours.
How does checking your benefits actually go?
You tell us your plan
Call the clinic and read us what is on your card: the carrier, the plan name, the member ID. If you already have your child's prescription from the pediatrician, mention the diagnosis on it, because pediatric therapy benefits are often written differently from adult ones.
We work through the details
Plans differ on almost everything that matters: whether pediatric therapy is a covered benefit, whether an authorization is required, how many visits are allowed in a year, and where your deductible currently sits. We go through your plan with you rather than guessing from the carrier name.
You get a straight answer
Then you know your likely out of pocket expenses, before you commit to a course of therapy. When a plan will not cover the care your child needs, we say so and show you the self-pay numbers instead. Nothing gets hidden until the statement arrives.

Being on this list does not guarantee that your particular plan covers pediatric therapy, and we are not claiming any partnership with these companies. It means we have worked with them before and know what to ask. If your carrier is not named here, call anyway and we will look.
What does it cost in Port Chester and Mt Kisco without insurance?
Some families have a plan that will not cover pediatric therapy, some are sitting on a deductible that makes coverage academic, and some would simply rather pay and get started. There are three ways in, and every one of them is priced before you book. A free 15 minute consultation costs nothing and is the right starting point if you mostly want to know whether what you are seeing warrants therapy at all. A $99 screening is a shorter look at one specific concern. A full exam and evaluation is $300 and is the complete assessment that produces a baseline, a plan and a home program. Individual treatment sessions after that run 45 minutes.
Two things worth knowing before you call. New York State requires a physician's prescription for a child to receive physical therapy, so at some point your pediatrician will need to write one, and our physician resources page gives them the ICD-10 codes and referral language. The free consultation does not require a prescription. Payment is by credit card, cash or check, and families are billed on a monthly statement, except for community programs and classes, which are paid at registration.
