Assessment and Plan

Personalized evaluations with individualized goals to put you at ease!

The 1st step is an initial evaluation that looks at the whole child and provides parents with a complete picture of their child’s strengths and challenges. Specific goals are then set and a formal plan is put in place to reach these goals.  Each session is designed to promote independence, increase participation, and facilitate motor development. Therapy is given in a play based environment to help children increase their strength, balance, coordination and reach their full gross motor potential.

We believe that building positive relationships with parents dramatically increases the child’s success. Our therapists pride themselves on maintaining constant and open communication with parents and members of their child’s team.

Torticollis and Plagiocephaly

Is your Baby stuck looking to one side and you’re beginning to worry that their neck is getting tight?

Torticollis is a condition in early infancy in which a child presents with a tilted position of the head and neck. Many children will also present with asymmetries and tightness throughout the body, affecting their posture and motor skills. If left untreated, many children with torticollis will be at risk of developing delays in fine and gross motor skills, head flattening, and/or conditions in later childhood including scoliosis and pain.If treatment begins as soon as any signs of possible asymmetry are detected, the shorter the treatment time for full recovery.

Physical therapy treatment for torticollis includes instruction on exercises for caregivers to perform at home in combination with comprehensive treatment by our skilled pediatric physical therapists. Our treatment sessions are designed to be fun, effective, and pain-free and often include some of the following interventions:

  • Passive and active range of motion exercises
  • Soft tissue and joint mobilization
  • Total Motion Release techniques
  • Kinesiotaping
  • Strengthening
  • Gross motor skills development
  • Tummy time training
  • Positioning recommendations
  • Referrals to complimentary providers

If you suspect your child may have torticollis, or you would like to learn techniques for prevention of torticollis, please contact us for an evaluation.

Gross Motor Delays

Are you worried your child is not reaching their motor milestones?

Gross motor skills are the activities we perform in our daily lives that involve using large muscle groups. Examples are rolling, crawling, sitting, standing, walking, running, and jumping. Delays in gross motor development can occur for many reasons; the presence of a medical diagnosis, abnormal muscle tone, decreased strength or range of motion, or a lack of tummy time. While some children catch up to their peers without intervention, others may be at risk of falling further behind or developing improper movement strategies that can affect their future posture and mobility. Our pediatric movement specialists will help your child overcome these challenges and lead them on a path to achieve their milestones.

Core strength and Conditioning

If your child is clumsy or has confidence issues, our movement experts can build their core strength so they can excel.

Our specialized treatments are offered by pediatric physical therapists, the movement experts. We will educate parents on underlying factors that may lead to their child’s clumsiness. We provide activities to help strengthen their core muscles and recommendations for proper shoe choices. Children often have difficulty when faced with new and age-appropriate gross motor activities. When they have difficulty and become frustrated, they are at risk for secondary difficulties such as decreased confidence or injury. These simple strategies will promote confidence in their movements while strengthening their core musculature and improving their conditioning.
